Stem Cell Therapy for the Lower Back
At NeoGenix, we are dedicated to providing non-surgical treatment options for low back pain. Our expertise lies in stem cell therapy, which is a natural and non-invasive alternative for low back pain relief. Our treatments have helped patients with arthritis, sciatica, and other degenerative low back conditions to find relief from pain and improve their quality of life. Additionally, we have successfully treated acute conditions resulting from recent soft tissue injuries such as back spasms.
Why are people choosing Stem Cell Therapy over Surgery?
- Out-patient procedure with a local anesthetic only
- Complications are extremely unlikely
- Quicker and easier recovery with no downtime
What is Stem Cell Treatment for Lower Back Pain?
Stem cell therapy is a natural and effective treatment option for low back injuries and conditions that result in low back pain. At NeoGenix, we offer a personalized approach to treating low back pain. Depending on the severity and type of the problem, we may recommend using growth factors from Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or stem cells from bone marrow aspirate.
Is Stem Cell Therapy for Lower Back Pain Effective?
Stem cell therapy has shown to be effective in providing relief for patients suffering from low back injuries or degenerative low back conditions, resulting in reduced pain and stiffness. Multiple research studies have been conducted, demonstrating significant improvement in low back pain after undergoing stem cell therapy, with many ongoing studies currently evaluating its potential benefits.
Patients that have received Stem Cell Therapy at NeoGenix have reported:
- Less pain from Arthritis, Sciatica or Degenerative low back Conditions
- Reduced Back stiffness
- Reduced dependency on pain medications
- Improved low back mobility and range of motion
NeoGenix is also founded by one of the most experienced knee injury treatment doctors in Lake Norman, NC, Dr. James Altizer, who has been performing stem cell therapy in North Carolina since January of 2016. Dr. Altizer received expert training from recognized leaders in the regenerative medicine field, including training on bone marrow aspiration with Duke University-affiliated physicians. He has performed thousands of stem cell and growth factor procedures, more than any other medical doctor in the Carolinas.
NeoGenix has a patient success rate of over 94%* with many results lasting for years.
An Alternative to Back Surgery
As time passes or after experiencing trauma, our joint cartilage and discs can deteriorate, either gradually over several years or rapidly over a few months. Surgery is not the only option, however, as stem cell therapy can offer a non-invasive alternative. It is advisable to seek a second opinion to determine if stem cell therapy is a viable option before consenting to surgery. The less invasive the treatment, the easier and more successful the recovery is likely to be.
Many patients with degenerative low back conditions, sciatica, and arthritis have found stem cell treatments to be an excellent alternative to low back fusions, discectomies, laminectomies, or the use of rods. This minimally invasive procedure has proven to be highly effective, and ongoing research continues to evaluate its benefits.

Stem cell therapy for Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
Stem cell therapy for Disc Herniation
The spinal disks are the shock absorbers for the spinal column. As we age, the gel in the center of the disks dries out. The outer rim of the disk is like a tire…it’s got circular fibers that help hold the disk’s circular shape. Those fibers can also wear out over time and get brittle. Bad disks can cause back pain in several different ways.
When the shock-absorbing capacity of the disks diminishes, the excess pressure can force the gel inside a disk to push out through the rim, and when this happens, this ‘herniation’ of the disk can press directly on the spinal nerves. This is what happens when spinal disks get old and degenerate. The gel material in the center pushes out of the disk itself and presses directly on the spinal nerves that normally travel right next to the disk.
The pressure on these nerves is what causes the low back pain, and the pain can radiate or travel down the back of the leg as far as the knee or even down to the foot and toes. In early cases, there is only pain and/or numbness/tingling sensations but as the nerve compression gets worse, the patient starts to notice weakness in the leg. They can’t walk up the steps or get out of a chair.
